Discussion: Socratic Seminars

  • Discuss qualities of a good discussion. How do you keep the conversation moving? How can you use the text? What are some general rules for a mature discussion? (Make class chart)
  • Take 10 minutes to complete the graphic organizer for chapters 4 & 5 of Of Mice and Men. It is important that you do this individually, or the discussion just won't work.
  • Number into inside/outside groups. Each group gets 4 minutes in the inside group to discuss. Outside group takes notes- "Talked About" and "Not Talked About"

To think about: All analytical writing based on what did the author say, what did he really mean, and, ultimately, so what! This is what conversations should be about!
